BCC Announces a NEW Certificate in Professional Fund Raising

Berkshire Community College launches new Certificate Program in Professional Fund Raising!

The Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) program is designed to address the growing need for non-profits to meet fund raising goals in an increasingly specialized philanthropic environment.

Whether you are currently in the field, or wish to pursue a career in fund raising, this program is an opportunity to become qualified as a development professional as part of a succession plan.

All courses will be taught by Gene C. Wenner, President of Arts & Education Consultants, who has over 25 years of experience in non-profit management, arts administration, education, fund raising and marketing along with other guest professionals from the field of philanthropy.

Certificate recipients will be qualified to hold such positions as a Director of Development, Institutional Advancement, Special Events Coordinator, Planned Giving Officer, Grants Manager or Development Associate.

Courses will be offered on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30PM. The courses required to complete the Certificate Program are as follows:

Overview Of Professional Fund Raising

September 3–September 24

Explores the requirements for professional positions in development and fund raising and the importance of understanding philanthropy and giving in the US. It emphasizes the roles and responsibilities for fund raising by the Board of Directors, chief executive, fund raising, program and marketing staff that assure setting, implementing and meeting financial goals for the non-profit.

Funds For Operating Support

October 1- October 22

Successful fund raising approaches for obtaining the most critical operating and administrative costs will include: (1) dynamic and meaningful Annual Campaigns that are designed for previous donors, those not current but who have contributed in the recent past and new donors and (2) effective Special Event creation and implementation with an emphasis on obtaining sponsorships

Grant Research and Writing Skills

October 29-November 19

Developing skills needed for grant funds research and excellence in grant writing skills for government, foundation and corporation grant proposals. It includes: (1) the creation of an effective Case Statement; (2) extensive research for potential grantors; (3) the development of appropriate promotional materials; (4) the successful writing of grant applications; and (5) follow-up procedures.

Soliciting Major Gifts

November 26-Decmber 17

Exploring successful procedures for obtaining Major Gifts to support both short and long term financial goals that evidence organization stability. Successful approaches to individuals, businesses and foundations to make substantial contributions for: (1) Capital Campaigns; (2) Endowment Campaigns (3) Corporate Sponsorships; and (4) A Planned Giving Program.
