Berkshire Creative Cited as a Model of Creative Economy Inspiration

Berkshire Creative is not just making  an impact in Berkshire County!

The Creative DC Action Agenda, presented this April, outlined a  strategy to strengthen the Washington, DC creative economy – a sector that includes design, film and video, media, museums and heritage, visual and performing arts, and culinary arts. In their presentation, who did they site as a Model of Inspiration, but Berkshire Creative and  our SPARK! events.  Special Thanks to B-HIP intern, Maggie Bang for bringing this  to our attention!

DIGMA: Design Industry of Massachusetts

DIGMA: Design Industry of Massachusetts

The Design Industry Group of Massachusetts (DIGMA) is an initiative of the statewide design industries to organize and promote the Massachusetts design cluster as integral to the state’s economy. DIGMA enables diverse design industries including advertising, architecture, graphic design, industrial design, interior design, landscape design, and specialized design services such as fashion, textiles and lighting design – to speak with one powerful and influential voice.

Since its founding in 2007, DIGMA has worked collaboratively with local design and civic leaders to:

  • Unite various design disciplines and their respective associations into a single, influential economic cluster
  • Increase understanding of the design cluster by undertaking research on the industry and its economic impact
  • Help designers forge stronger ties with current and prospective clients, other creative thinkers and doers (such as educators, inventors, entrepreneurs, artists, engineers, and scientists), aficionados and critics, and the global design community
  • Organize and facilitate symposia, roundtables, and other programs to build awareness and raise visibility of the design industry
  • Inform and influence policy that promotes design as part of the Massachusetts innovation economy

Stage Combat, Unarmed Violence for Stage & Screen
Slaps, punches, kicks & more taught with the “safety first” technique used on stage & screen. Get on your feet & learn the illusion of violence & how to stage it in your next show. Participants will learn the primary safety aspects of combat and the core unarmed moves they will most likely come across in their scene work: identifying when combat is needed and how to be smart, safe actors when dealing with violence. Plus, the physical ensemble work will promote team building, listening skills and a heightened awareness of one’s surroundings. All skill levels and body types welcome.

Physical Comedy – Extreme Actor/Audience Techniques
Let them laugh at you… It’s your JOB! Learn a hybrid of straight comic acting, physical comedy and quick witted improv to engage and mesmerize your audience. Tune up your own comedic timing and inject that into your character work. Find out the magic of repetition, how to make the simple hilariously difficult, and much more. Participants will develop a stronger sense of the clown in their character work and how to incorporate the audience in everything they do. Focus is also put on being vulnerable in front of an audience and reaping the benefits from the honesty in your comic work. All skill levels welcome.

To register, please call Main Street Stage at 413-663-3240 or visit their website at mainstreetstage.org and click on reservations. Space is limited.
