Award-Winning Local Literay Journal Features Nationally Recognized Local Author

Three essays appearing in the fourth issue of upstreet, the award-winning literary journal published by Ledgetop Publishing, have been cited as Notable Works by two collections in the Best American series.

“Everlasting,” a personal narrative by Frank Tempone of Dalton, was cited in Best American Nonrequired Reading 2009. Tempone is the founder and director of Word Street, the former Pittsfield drop-in tutoring and writing center.

The other two essays, both cited in Best American Essays 2009, are “Vocabulary Lesson,” by Katherine Lien Chariott of Shanghai, China, and “Hermes Goes to College,” by Michael Martone of Tuscaloosa, AL.

upstreet is an annual selection of poems, short stories, and essays, with an author interview in each issue. The fourth issue received a Bronze Medal in the anthologies category of the 2009 Independent Publisher Book Awards.
