UPPER HOUSATONIC  VALLEY NATIONAL HERITAGE AREA: 2010 Heritage Partnership Grant Program

Deadline: July 15, 2010

The Heritage Partnership Grant for collections, training, educational programming and / or outreach is intended to provide support for history organizations that wish to improve stewardship of their collections, increase their knowledge of topics related to their mission, engage students and educational institutions and/or enhance their connections to their regular public / reach new audiences. This grant program offers matching grants of up to $5,000 to successful applicants.

TURNER FALLS RIVER CULTURE: Call for Producers

Deadline: July 15, 2010

Turner Falls want to pay you to make art in downtown Turners Falls. Submit a proposal for the participatory/public art you want to make/do and if you’re selected, they will give you money to make that art happen.

THE WASSAIC PROJECT: Fall Residency

Deadline: July 23, 2010

The Wassaic Project Residency Program has been created to cultivate and support community for emerging and professional contemporary artists.  Housed in a historic re-purposed livestock auction barn and nearby house, the Residency Program offers eight artists the opportunity to live and work in the heart of a rural community and offers three local artists studio space.  The Wassaic Project seeks a group of artists working in a diverse range of media who want to produce, explore, challenge, and expand on their current art making practices, while participating in a grass roots, community-based arts organization.  In the final month of the residency, artists will either complete an installation or contribute work to be included in The Wassaic Project Summer Festival 2011.

PERCEPTIONS CONTEMPORARY DANCE FESTIVAL: Call to Choreographers & Dance Companies

The Perceptions Contemporary Dance Festival provides artists (emerging and established) with the opportunity to present dance in New York City. The festival is designed to support choreographers and companies around the country and internationally, providing the necessary technical aspects of staging professional work with minimal costs incurred. This festival provides artists with a state-of-the-art theater, expert technical crew, ticket sales, promotion and exposure in the NYC area, while creating the opportunity for growth and development by allowing each artist to focus solely on their art.

AUGUST

THE AMY CLAMPITT RESIDENCY PROGRAM: Residency for Poets/Literary Scholars

Deadline: August 1, 2010

The Residency award consists of the use of the Amy Clampitt House free and clear for a six month
or twelve month period beginning on February 1, 2011 and ending on January 27th, 2012.

ARTIST’S RESOURCE TRUST (A.R.T) FUND: Call for Grant Applications (Individuals)

Deadline: August 1, 2010

Grants awarded to professional New England visual artists in painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography or mixed media who have a financial need. Awards range from $1,500 to $10,000 and may be applied toward any expense that may enhance the artist’s ability to create his/her work.

ARTIST’S RESOURCE TRUST (A.R.T) FUND: Call for Grant Applications (Organizations)

Deadline: August 1, 2010

1:1 Matching grants ranging from $3,000 to $10,000 for Nonprofit organizations that wish to commission new
work or purchase existing works by mature, mid-career artists living in New England.

MINERVA ARTS CENTER: Open Auditions

Audition Dates: August 3 & 4, 11:30AM to 2 PM and 6 to 10PM at 1288 Massachusetts Avenue in North Adams, MA

The Minerva Arts Center announces auditions for ALIZA, a musical theatre piece written by and starring Los Angeles-based artist Ali Mandelbaum. All who audition are expected to prepare a solo to sing and a short dramatic monologue, in addition to performing cold readings from the script. Rehearsals for the show will take place on weekday evenings, with performance dates scheduled for September 2nd through 5th. This process-oriented production of ALIZA will be directed by Minerva Artistic Director Kathleen O’Mara, musically directed by New York-based Charles Sanchez, and will be one of the first shows to run in the newly opened Minerva Arts Center.  For questions or concerns, please contact Eric K. THE JOHN D. MINECK FOUNDATION: Call to Furniture Artists

Deadline: August 9, 2010

A $25,000 Fellowship to support a furniture artist looking to fulfill an apprenticeship, develop their own skills, and/or make the transition to independence. The fellowship, awarded annually to one artist, is administered by The Society of Arts and Crafts.

PAPER TRAIL-HERITAGE OF PAPERMAKING: Artist Call for Entry

Deadline: August 16, 2010

The Paper Trail interprets and shares the history of paper making in The New England Housatonic Heritage Area, while also celebrating, highlighting and facilitating contemporary paper making endeavors here, both artistic and industrial applications. The selected pieces will be shown in the month of September at the Lichenstein Arts Center in Pittsfield, Ma. This will coincide with an exhibition at the Berkshire Museum featuring old equipment, photographs, and other odds and ends from the Paper Making Industry, which fueled the areas economy in the early 1800’s. Innovative works crafted of paper or works that identify with the history of paper making and the contemporary use of paper will be considered.

LILLIAN ORLOWSKY/WILLIAM FREED FOUNDATION GRANTS: Call for Applications

Deadline: August 16, 2010

Grants will be offered to American painters aged 45 or older who demonstrate financial need. The primary emphasis is to promote public awareness and a commitment to American art, as well as encouraging interest in artists who lack adequate recognition.

NEW YORK STATE WRITERS INSTITUTE: Poetry Workshop with Fellow Rebecca Wolff

Deadline: August 25, 2010

New York State Writers Institute Writing Fellow Rebecca Wolff, editor of FENCE magazine, will conduct an intermediate to advanced poetry workshop during the Fall 2010 semester. September 20, 27, October 4, 11, 18, November 1, 8, 15, 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., University at Albany’s uptown campus.The workshop is limited to ten writers. Admission is based on the submission of writing samples. 

WAM THEATRE: Open Auditions for “Melahcholy Play”

Audition Dates: August 22, 2010, Capital District (location TBA) and  August, 23, 2010, NEW STAGE Performing Arts Center, Pittsfield, MA

WAM Theatre is looking for non-equity actors who are comfortable with heightened language and lyric poetry, music, physical theatre, improvisation, ensemble work, singing and dancing. A stipend will be paid. NEW AMERICAN PAINTINGS: Call for Submission

North Adams Open Studios is looking for artists – with and without studios – to participate in its sixth annual autumn showcase of local artisans to be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 15 and 16, from 10 to 6.

THE BAMBI FOUNDATION: Call for Multimedia Artists

Deadline: September 1, 2010

Call for applications from multimedia artists with a focus on experimental cinema and projection installations. The Bambi Foundation supports contemporary non-object art projects, with an emphasis on experimental cinema and projected image installations. The foundation accepts proposals from a wide range of artists, disciplines and medium, and focuses on works that cannot be easily accommodated by market-based art scenes. It offers up to 8,000 euros (approximately $9,750) per project and even more, depending on the project requirements. Email contact@bambifoundation.com.

STEAMPUNK FORM & FUNCTION DESIGN COMPETITION: Call for Submissions

Steampunk Form & Function Design Competition brings together outstanding Steampunk design innovations, details the design process and promotes the role of the Steampunk designer/craftsman. Along with recycled items, all Steampunk design solutions are primarily built using authentic Victorian (1850s to early 1900s) objects, salvage items, clothing and antiques that incorporate modern technology and have specific functions for modern day, practical uses.

Berkshire Arts and Technology Charter Public School’s Artist Residency Program provides BArT students with a unique learning opportunity to work directly with professional artists in trimester-long classes, day to week-long workshops, and the after-school program. Teaching artists who have worked in the program represent a wide-range of media and artistic styles, while sharing one common
passion—engaging young people in the arts. BArT is currently looking for area
