METRO-NORTH RAILROAD TARRYTOWN STATION: Call for Artists

MTA Arts for Transit seeks professional artists for consideration to create public artwork for the Metro-North Railroad Tarrytown Station on the Hudson Line in Westchester County.

UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS BOSTON: Call to Fiber, Wood, and Ceramic Artists

Deadline: August 15, 2010

University of Massachusetts Boston, Harbor Art Gallery is seeking artists for an upcoming exhibition of fiber art, wooden sculpture, and ceramics. The exhibition will focus on objects made with natural, organic materials such a wool, cloth, paper, fur (remember to be kind to animals when gathering your materials), hair (and humans too), flowers, trees, and stone. PAPER TRAIL-HERITAGE OF PAPERMAKING: Artist Call for Entry

Deadline: August 16, 2010

The Paper Trail interprets and shares the history of paper making in The New England Housatonic Heritage Area, while also celebrating, highlighting and facilitating contemporary paper making endeavors here, both artistic and industrial applications. The selected pieces will be shown in the month of September at the Lichenstein Arts Center in Pittsfield, Ma. This will coincide with an exhibition at the Berkshire Museum featuring old equipment, photographs, and other odds and ends from the Paper Making Industry, which fueled the areas economy in the early 1800’s. Innovative works crafted of paper or works that identify with the history of paper making and the contemporary use of paper will be considered.

LILLIAN ORLOWSKY/WILLIAM FREED FOUNDATION GRANTS: Call for Applications

Grants will be offered to American painters aged 45 or older who demonstrate financial need. The primary emphasis is to promote public awareness and a commitment to American art, as well as encouraging interest in artists who lack adequate recognition.

WAM THEATRE: Open Auditions for “Melahcholy Play”

WAM Theatre is looking for non-equity actors who are comfortable with heightened language and lyric poetry, music, physical theatre, improvisation, ensemble work, singing and dancing. A stipend will be paid. TRINITY FINANCIAL: Art Installation Project Call for Entries

Deadline: August 23, 2010

Trinity Financial invites artists/designers/teams to forward qualifications for an artwork to be permanently installed in the four-story atrium of the Appleton Mills redevelopment, an historic textile mill located at 219 Jackson Street in downtown Lowell, MA. The work to be commissioned could be a freestanding, wall-mounted or suspended piece. This project isopen to all artists/designers/teams residing in New England, including collaborations with writers or sound artists/musicians. The budget is $15,000. Five to ten finalists will receive a $500 honorarium to develop a proposal for public exhibition at the 10th Annual Open Studios in Lowell September 24-26, 2010. One artist/designer team will be commissioned for the project. The Urban Arts Institute at Massachusetts College of Art and Design (UrbanArts) is facilitating the project. CUSHING MARTIN GALLERY: Call for Artists

The Cushing-Martin Gallery at Stonehill College is accepting submissions for an exhibit, Heavy Metal, which will take place in November 2010. Artists’ work should explore metal with a scientific connection – either through process or content. NEW YORK STATE WRITERS INSTITUTE: Poetry Workshop with Fellow Rebecca Wolff

New York State Writers Institute Writing Fellow Rebecca Wolff, editor of FENCE magazine, will conduct an intermediate to advanced poetry workshop during the Fall 2010 semester. September 20, 27, October 4, 11, 18, November 1, 8, 15, 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., University at Albany’s uptown campus.The workshop is limited to ten writers. Admission is based on the submission of writing samples. 

SOUTHEASTERN CONTEMPORARY ART GALLERY: Call for cell phone photography

The Southeastern Louisiana University Contemporary Art Gallery is devoted to the presentation of national and regional exhibitions of contemporary art, lectures and workshops. The gallery is part of the Visual Arts Department and as such provides a forum for contemporary art for students, the city of Hammond and residents of the North Shore. Exhibitions and educational programs at SLUCAG connect students with opportunities to engage with artworks and artists while giving them insight into current directions in contemporary art.

THE BAMBI FOUNDATION: Call for Multimedia Artists

Call for applications from multimedia artists with a focus on experimental cinema and projection installations. The Bambi Foundation supports contemporary non-object art projects, with an emphasis on experimental cinema and projected image installations. The foundation accepts proposals from a wide range of artists, disciplines and medium, and focuses on works that cannot be easily accommodated by market-based art scenes. BERKSHIRE TACONIC COMMUNITY FOUDNATION: Central Berkshire Fund Grant

The Central Berkshire Fund seeks to improve the quality of life for the residents of Becket, Cummington, Dalton, Hinsdale, Peru, Washington and Windsor. Projects that benefit the community in any of the following areas will be considered: arts and culture, education, the environment, and health and social services. Nonprofit organizations, public agencies or community organizations that provide services to  the residents of Becket, Cummington, Dalton, Hinsdale, Peru, Washington or Windsor are  eligible to apply for grants. Requests will be considered for projects, programs, capital improvements and general operating support.

STEAMPUNK FORM & FUNCTION DESIGN COMPETITION: Call for Submissions

Steampunk Form & Function Design Competition brings together outstanding Steampunk design innovations, details the design process and promotes the role of the Steampunk designer/craftsman. Along with recycled items, all Steampunk design solutions are primarily built using authentic Victorian (1850s to early 1900s) objects, salvage items, clothing and antiques that incorporate modern technology and have specific functions for modern day, practical uses.

THE DANCE COMPLEX: Call for Choreographers

Please submit a brief summary of your piece, including style, number of dancers and whatever you know about music, title, and props. For this cycle of the Shared Choreographers’ Concert, Shawn Mahoney  and Rozann Kraus will mentor. Choreographers will also have the opportunity to be involved with an exciting research project on group creativity.  Researchers from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College (Bess Rouse and Spencer Harrison) will be working with participants of the SCC program to understand more about how the creative process unfolds.

Berkshire Arts and Technology Charter Public School’s Artist Residency Program provides BArT students with a unique learning opportunity to work directly with professional artists in trimester-long classes, day to week-long workshops, and the after-school program. Teaching artists who have worked in the program represent a wide-range of media and artistic styles, while sharing one common passion—engaging young people in the arts. BArT is currently looking for area artists who are interested in participating as teaching artists in the school’s residency program.
