The Cushing-Martin Gallery at Stonehill College is accepting submissions for an exhibit, Heavy Metal, which will take place in November 2010. Artists’ work should explore metal with a scientific connection – either through process or content. In addition to premade work, they will consider project submissions that would involve collaboration with the student community as long as artwork examples are included with proposed project. NEW YORK STATE WRITERS INSTITUTE: Poetry Workshop with Fellow Rebecca Wolff

New York State Writers Institute Writing Fellow Rebecca Wolff, editor of FENCE magazine, will conduct an intermediate to advanced poetry workshop during the Fall 2010 semester. SOUTHEASTERN CONTEMPORARY ART GALLERY: Call for cell phone photography

The Southeastern Louisiana University Contemporary Art Gallery is devoted to the presentation of national and regional exhibitions of contemporary art, lectures and workshops. The gallery is part of the Visual Arts Department and as such provides a forum for contemporary art for students, the city of Hammond and residents of the North Shore. Exhibitions and educational programs at SLUCAG connect students with opportunities to engage with artworks and artists while giving them insight into current directions in contemporary art.

The Bambi Foundation supports contemporary non-object art projects, with an emphasis on experimental cinema and projected image installations. The foundation accepts proposals from a wide range of artists, disciplines and medium, and focuses on works that cannot be easily accommodated by market-based art scenes. Projects that benefit the community in any of the following areas will be considered: arts and culture, education, the environment, and health and social services. BIG SKY DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL: Call for Submissions

STEAMPUNK FORM & FUNCTION DESIGN COMPETITION: Call for Submissions

Steampunk Form & Function Design Competition brings together outstanding Steampunk design innovations, details the design process and promotes the role of the Steampunk designer/craftsman. Along with recycled items, all Steampunk design solutions are primarily built using authentic Victorian (1850s to early 1900s) objects, salvage items, clothing and antiques that incorporate modern technology and have specific functions for modern day, practical uses.
THE DANCE COMPLEX: Call for Choreographers

Please submit a brief summary of your piece, including style, number of dancers and whatever you know about music, title, and props. For this cycle of the Shared Choreographers’ Concert, Shawn Mahoney and Rozann Kraus will mentor. Choreographers will also have the opportunity to be involved with an exciting research project on group creativity. Researchers from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College (Bess Rouse and Spencer Harrison) will be working with participants of the SCC program to understand more about how the creative process unfolds.

STOREFRONT ARTIST PROJECT: Call for Installation Proposals

Storefront Artist Project seeks installation proposals for a vacant storefront located in the Onota Building at 70 North Street at in downtown Pittsfield, MA. Artwork may contain two and three-dimensional elements. The installation must be illuminated at night. Lighting may be incorporated into the piece or used as a display component only. This call for art is not limited to artists living in Berkshire County or the region, however, travel accommodations will not be provided. Artist(s) must complete the installation on or before November 20, 2010. Artist(s) agrees to participate in Storefront’s Open Studio event on October 9, 2010 from 1-4pm and Pittsfield’s 3rd Thursday festival on October 21 from 5-8pm. A stipend of $250 will be provided.

2011 BERLIN UNDERGROUND TRAIN NETWORK: Call for Proposals

The Neue Gesellschaft fuer Bildende Kunst (NGBK) in Berlin, are looking for situation specific and/or participatory ideas, visions, experiments and interventions which address the future meaning of ‘public’ in Berlin’s public Underground Network. The projects can range from being short, interventionistic artistic reactions to specific occurrences on the Underground to being long term collaborations aimed at creating sustainable relationships to Underground staff and/or users over a number of years. A total budget of 30.000 Euro for artist’s fees, production, travel and accommodation is available for a maximum of four projects to be realised from May to December 2011

MASSACHUSETTS CULTURAL COUNCIL: Call for Proposals

An open call for proposals to create the 2011 Commonwealth Award Art Object. The Commonwealth Awards, presented biannually, are the state’s highest honor in the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences. The MCC commissions a Massachusetts artist to create the three-dimensional art object that serves as the award. The MCC will commission between nine and thirteen art objects AND one distinctive piece to be presented to the Keynote Speaker. The total budget may not exceed $8,450 (approximately $650 per object).
FIGURE AS MODERN RELIC: Call for Artists

Open to all ceramic artists over the age of 18 residing in the United States. Works must be made of clay or mixed media, with ceramics being at least 70% of the work. Submissions should have been created in the last three years. The work must fit through a standard doorframe and be displayable on either wall or pedestal. Accepted pieces must be properly prepared and ready for display. Juried by Sigrid K. Zahner, Assistant Professor or Art & Design, Patti & Rusty Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts at Purdue University. Individuals associated with Purdue University are ineligible.

UPSTREET Literary Magazine invites you to submit your poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction (including prose poems) for the seventh issue of upstreet. Please read these guidelines carefully. If they are not followed, your submission will not be considered. Submissions are no longer accepted by e-mail or surface mail, but only through the upstreet Submission Manager, an online system that will be found here. The author’s name and contact information should not appear anywhere on the manuscript. Notification will be made via e-mail, by mid-May 2011. The seventh issue of upstreet is expected to appear in early July of 2011. Each author will receive a complimentary copy, and will be able to purchase more copies at a special author rate.
