A collaborative venture bringing emerging contemporary visual artists from around the world to the Berkshires each summer, this program was initiated by Storefront Artist’s Project and is now being relaunched at IS183 as the Berkshire Residency Exchange.
In partnership with the Omi International Arts Center,Project Art, & ArtBerkshires, the BRE pop-up studios create a unique educational opportunity for the public to witness art in the making, learn about contemporary art around the world and the realities of creative endeavor. Through this interaction, IS183 Art School creates a platform for visiting artists to thrive, to engage and to foster a community that values art. Through the integration of BRE into IS183’s programs for at-risk youth, including Bridge 2o12 at Taconic High School in Pittsfield, BRE artists will function as a lens for the community to see the potential and positive contributions of our most at-risk students.
The 2012 program runs from Monday, July 16 through Monday August 13, during which the BRE will welcome the following three artists:
—Noor Al Suwaidi, painter and ArtOmi International artist from United Arab Emirates.
—Bembol dela Cruz, ArtOmi International artist from the Philippines working in figurative realism and tattoo art.
—Dina Noto, IS183 faculty artist and CalArts alumnus. As the first resident artist in our new Experimental Animation residency program, Dina will work on-site at IS183 in a pop up animation studio and create finished segments of animation for her current film in production.
