Pittsfield – SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business was the recipient of the Ruth P. and Nicholas Boraski Leaders in Philanthropy Award at Berkshire United Way’s annual Leadership Reception held Wednesday, June 20th at the Hillcrest Gazebo in Pittsfield. In presenting the award to SABIC’s Regional Chief Counsel of the Americas, Naveena Shastri, and retired leader, Charles Crew, Mr. Boraski noted SABIC’s multi-faceted approach to corporate philanthropy. In addition to contributing $1.2 million to Berkshire United Way through its workplace campaign since SABIC acquired GE Plastics in Pittsfield in 2006, the company also donates funds to public schools and enrichment programs to “bring to life” creative ideas in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), and each year sponsors a collaborative volunteer project that has community involvement and impact. For Berkshire United Way, the company endorsed participation of its employees on numerous committees and initiatives, supported 2011 Day of Caring efforts, and hosted the 2011 Workplace Campaign kick-off event.
Berkshire United Way President and CEO Kristine Hazzard also noted SABIC’s accomplishments. “We are delighted to recognize SABIC for the active role they’ve taken in improving our community these last several years. SABIC recognizes that in order for their company to succeed, their employees and their community need to succeed as well. That’s the mark of a true corporate citizen.”
