Apply for Artist Grants and Training from Assets for Artists

A popular Berkshire-based individual grant program, Assets for Artists, announces its Fall 2012 grant application for Massachusetts artists in all creative disciplines. Assets for Artists is a one- of-a-kind microfinance project that encourages artist-entrepreneurs to invest in and expand their artistic businesses by providing training and $2,000 in matching funds.

Emerging and established artists of low-to-moderate income are encouraged to apply by the October 12, 2012 deadline. Once accepted into the program, participants are enrolled in a special matched savings bank account and receive artist-focused financial and business training to help them craft a business plan. Past participants have expanded their kiln size, cut a studio album, opened a retail space, developed brochures and other marketing materials, built professionally designed websites, and more.

Started as a pilot program in the Berkshires, Assets for Artists got its start in 2008 with more than a little help from Berkshire Creative. The original group of 9 artists (including a jewelry designer, a fiber artist, a master drummer, a Delta blues musician, a documentary filmmaker, a stained glass artist, and others) has expanded to over 40 artists in the Berkshires and 65 state- wide.
